Bliss balls. Protein balls. Superfood balls. Healthy chocolate-y snacks of delight. Whatever you want to call them, these balls are bangin’.
These bliss balls are the perfect afternoon snack with a cuppa or for breakfast with a smoothie or even ideal aeroplane food. My boyfriend and I trialled these out last week on a flight and as long as you take them on frozen (and in a container), and eat them within the first hour or so (so the coconut oil doesn’t melt), they seriously hit the spot. Mmmmm-mmmm.
There’s no denying there’s a trillion bliss ball recipes online with varying ingredients and methods, but that’s the fun in this recipe; there’s so much room for play. My kind of cooking. A bit of this, a bit of that. A taste test here and there. And again!
Basically, don’t be scared to substitute ingredients with what you’ve got in your pantry/fridge and freestyle as much as you like with quantities. I do. Have a play. Experiment. Lick the bowl. And enjoy!
You will need
1 cup soft pitted medjool dates
1 cup walnuts
3/4 cup raw organic cacao powder
1/4 cup coconut oil
1 -2 tbsp organic butter
1-2 tbsp tahini (or any nut butter)
1/4 cup goji berries
2 tbsp cacao nibs
1/2 cup sunflower seeds
What to do
Mix dates, walnuts, cacao, coconut oil, butter and tahini in a food processor for a minute or so. If you don’t have a food processor, crush the walnuts in a paper bag with a rolling pin and ‘mash’ the dates with a fork and some warm water, before mixing through the oils and butters.
Stir through goji berries, sunflower seeds and cacao nibs. Add more cacao or ground walnuts if too wet or more oil/butters if too dry. Let mixture sit for 10 minutes, before rolling mix into balls. Store in the fridge or freezer. Enjoy. I’d love you to share/pin/tweet/like this recipe too!
