I don’t know about you, but I find there is nothing more inspiring than girl-crushing on a mega babe who is living her dream, rocking her life and changing the world in the process. Someone who I can relate to as well as look up to.
Someone whose story resonates with me and who I admire for living their life with PASSION and AUTHENTICITY and kicking arse in the process.
I dig it. Connection. Soul sisters. Good vibes. Sharing the love.
So without further ado, it is with great pleasure that I kick off my interview series Heroines with Heart today – a weekly space for me to share with you some of the ultra inspiring, brilliant women (or men – it’d be wicked to have a Hero with Heart up here too!) that are currently blowing my mind.
I’m SO excited to introduce you to the gorgeous Tegan Westra. This girl has a heart of gold and she is on a mission to end the battle that too many women have with their bodies.
Her story is incredibly touching, gut-wrenching and refreshing at the same time. To hear her talk with such honesty and compassion about her past struggles with an eating disorder, combined with her desire to help other women learn to love themselves and their bodies – it’s pretty amazing stuff.
What is your dream?
To help women struggling with poor self esteem fall in love with themselves by teaching them how to nourish their body from the inside out – Mind, body and spirit.
What makes up your lifeblood?
Love and acceptance of myself and others.
What has been your biggest fear to date to overcome?
Oh gosh, so many things. For 10+ years i put on a smiley face and pretended everything was ok but behind closed doors I was in the midst of an eating disorder (bulimia) that had a grip so tight I never thought it would let me go.
The fear and embarrassment that came from the possibility of anyone ever finding out about it was enormous. Its only been in recent years that I’ve admitted to myself that I had a problem and finally took the steps to get better.
Starting my blog and speaking openly about my struggles for the firs time was another huge fear buster because, it was me opening up and admitting to the world – friends/ family/ everyone something I had kept hidden with shame for so long.
Being healthy means that I…
Find a happy balance through nourishing my body with an abundance of whole foods and exercise in a way that feels good for my soul.
To me, the word ‘healing’ means…
Creating space within to allow the body to restore its natural balance. Our body has an innate capacity to heal if we provide it with the right environment to do so.
Where is your ultimate travel destination?
Funny you ask because, I’ve been looking for a bit of a holiday relaxation destination lately and stumbled upon this little island off the coast of Fiji called Tavarua which is the shape of a heart – Check it out!
What DRIVES you?
The possibility that one day in the very near future I will be working for myself as a health coach doing something that can have such a positive impact on someones life. Can.not.wait!
Choosing LOVE over FEAR means…
Being gentle to myself, listening to what my body wants and moving forward in the direction of my dreams.
I feel really creative when I…
Don’t have 1 zillion things running through my head that need to get done.
If you could tell your 14 year old self one thing, what would it be?
Just love yourself first and everything will be okay. [Click to Tweet this!]
Can you share with us your guilty pleasure?
Trashy reality TV, I don’t really watch much telly but when I do, it’s all about the Kardashians and Real Housewives.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?
Working as a holistic health and life coach and inspiring women to live their biggest, most beautiful life.
Tegan Westra is a writer, holistic health coach (in training!) and whole food fanatic. She gets a kick out of teaching women how to fall in love with themselves through nourishing their bodies from the inside out and believes that once you know HOW to eat to feel good, the choice of WHAT to eat becomes simple.
When she’s not whipping up nutritious snacks in the kitchen or guzzling a green juice, you’ll find her chatting about her most recent health and wellness discovery with anyone who will stop by long enough to listen.
