I think it’s awesome that the more I share my own journey of adoring my menstrual cycle and structuring my life around the changes and phases I move through each month, the more questions I receive from other curious seekers. While I know that for some women (and men) it feels weird, gross or uncomfortable to talk […]
Being Thanksgiving (even though I’m in Australia), it feels mega appropriate to have Amy O’Brien sharing her wisdom with us today; aaahhh I am SO super grateful that this lady is in my life.
Amy is a Doctor of Chinese Medicine and my personal Acupuncturist/Herbalist. I’ve written before about the positive impact that her magic has brought into my life, and I credit her treatment immensely for helping restore my menstrual cycle, balance my hormones and bring a sense of gentle ease and lightness to my wellness regime.

The jury is out on exactly how much we absorb from the beauty products we apply to our skin – although 60% gets thrown around a lot – but when it comes to toxins and my body, I’m all for less is more…
About a month ago, I shared with you Part 1 of My Fave Natural Beauty Products series, which was all about makeup and cosmetics.
Today I’ve got a round up of my much loved non-toxic skin care products.
Radiance starts from within and as our skin is our largest organ, it’s a fabulous messenger for what is – and isn’t – working for our insides. My skin will always let me know (with a jolly big breakout), when I haven’t had enough sleep or I’ve eaten too much sugar. Most of the time however, my skin is perfect. And that sentence still brings a smile to my face!
Alright, so you’ve got perfect skin. What do you know about adult acne then?
You see, I battled with acne for over 13 years. That’s nearly half my lifetime. Ouch. So believe me when I say, I understand the frustration, obsession and negative self image that acne – mild, moderate or severe – brings about.
From my early teens and right into my mid-twenties, I’d taken every pill under the sun and tried every topical cream you can buy. I’d seen dermatologists, filled piles of prescriptions and ingested a myriad of chemical concoctions in the hope of waking up with clear skin.
I haven’t made my journey with Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) much of a secret. I’ve written here, here and here all about my experience coming off the contraceptive pill after over a decade of usage, only to find that my period didn’t come back – for a year!
Diagnosed with PCOS and given butt-loads of conflicting and confusing advice from friends, family, my GP, Google, books and blogs, it was a challenging and confronting year at times as I set out ‘debunking PCOS’. I’ve also made no secret about just how much Nat Kringoudis (as a Doctor of Chinese Medicine, Acupuncturist and Natural Fertility Educator as well as women’s wellness blogging SUPERSTAR), helped bring clarity to my situation and empowered me to make the best decisions for my body.
I’ll be honest, money and period pain don’t normally rank too high on my morning gratitude list. Family, friends, my biz, my boy and my health normally take the cake. But this month, I thought I’d dig a little deeper.
What am I really grateful for, right now? In this moment, what is supporting me? What am I learning from? What is my biggest teacher?
Well, as these things go, it’s the difficult and challenging elements of our lives that bring us the gold. It’s what we resist that brings us the most revealing insights, gems and revelations. So I dug deep – and this is what I came up with.
If there’s a lady that embodies the essence and truth behind what this segment is all about – women who are leading with heart, working hard from a a soul-centred space to bring fruition to their mission – it’s Natalie Kringoudis.
As a Natural Fertility Educator, Acupuncturist, Author and Speaker, Nat has without a doubt positively – and drastically – influenced the shape of my life and health over the past year or so. Initially her blog inspired me to discontinue the contraceptive pill and then provided a wealth of information and support when things didn’t quite go as planned.
And it’s not just me – through her blog, business, books, live events and online programs, Nat’s leading a whole new generation of women who are choosing nourishing, natural wellness and fertile health over modern medicine’s obsession with over-medication and gently reminding us our bodies are savvier, smarter and stronger than we often give them credit for. Yep, trail-blazer.
In person, she’s a delight! Crazy amounts of energy and enthusiasm – and such a babe. I was honoured to share my story with Nat on her site in a video interview recently and I’m bloody thrilled to have her gorgeous face on my blog today. Enjoy!
I’ve imagined what it would feel like to write this post so many times. The excitement. The relief.
The thought that – maybe this is too much to share – because that fear is definitely there. But gently reminding myself why I show up on this blog, brings me back. To connect with you. To share my journey and (hopefully) empower you as you go along your own.
So, without further ado. The time has come. The day has arrived. *squeal!*
I’m throwing a period party!!
Yes! Yes! Yes!
Finally, after 12 months (almost to the day – freaky) after coming off the contraceptive pill, my period has returned. I got my period back!
Since I first wrote about my post-pill amenorrhea (no period after coming off the pill) back in May, it has easily become my most visited post. Every week I have women sharing their confusion and fear with me and it breaks my heart to read how afraid, desperate and uninformed a lot of these women are when it comes to the contraceptive pill and its long term effects on fertility and their bodies’ ability to find balance and obtain a healthy cycle once coming off it. You can read my first post here.
So where am I at with it all? Well, here we go. Forewarning: Lengthy post!
Chinese Medicine & Nourishment
For almost 5 months I’ve been focussing on nourishing my body from a Chinese Medicine perspective through the care of Amy O’Brien, a Chinese Medicine Herbalist and Acupuncturist (read more about my experience with acupuncture here) to rebalance and nourish my body.
