There’s nothing like making the decision to practice the art of self-care or explore your creativity to bring up all of your STUFF. And by stuff I mean insecurities, self doubt, fear and resistance. Social media shines with crafted, glossy exteriors and it’s easy to feel as if our delightful-but-messy life, isn’t up to scratch. […]
No one makes the big and brave decision to work for themselves because they want to feel exhausted, uninspired and pissed off with their business. And yet, halfway through last year, I found myself feeling all of the above. I feared the romance was over. I was tired, headache-y and had this strange sense of being […]
You’re a storyteller, a communicator, a lover of self expression and the proud owner of a curious, creative heart. You know that when you feel good, you do great work in the world. Being out in nature and exploring the world inspires you, and you feel most like yourself when you’ve got pen to paper […]
There’s nothing quite like witnessing something that had lived for so long as simply a figment of your imagination, a snippet of your wildest dreams or scribbles on the page, manifest as something real and tangible. Something that you can touch, smell, feel; a real life experience. To see a much-loved project come together after hours and days and weeks and months of planning is something pretty spectacular indeed.
“Sometimes, you just need a break. In a beautiful place. Alone. To figure everything out.”
The first time I saw that quote was somewhere on Instagram in August 2012, right before I decided to book myself on a week long yoga retreat in Bali. Slapping the $1800 on my credit card, it was exactly what I needed in that uncertain chapter of my life, to retreat, to pull back, to: figure everything out.
Today, I’m passionate about honouring this ebb and flow. It is an intention of mine to tune in daily to my own cycles for creativity and self care, in my business AND in my life. Sometimes, this means immersing myself in a project and working my arse off. Sometimes, this means pulling back, creating space, taking a break and retreating.

I’ve been working way too much lately. It feels crappy. And I’ve felt too ashamed to tell you. Yes, I agree that the ‘glorification of busy’ isn’t healthy, but neither is the shame I’d developed by keeping it in the dark and slapping a ‘but I love my work so I can do it all day, every day’ tag on it, because I’m not buying it.
It’s been a big, beautiful and busy start to the year. Add to that a few Big Life Decisions and Unexpected Life Happenings (you’re a human being so you know the drill) and I woke up last week, looked at myself in the mirror and said: ‘Claire, you look like crap.’
Well, this is exciting! After a stellar two month break from blogging, I’m seriously excited to be back online. And what better way to kick the year off on a HIGH note, than with a Gratitude Files segment, video style.
